In every industry, one of the biggest factors affecting whether someone will choose to purchase your products or services is whether you have the right accreditations. Accreditations are a sign of quality and trust; you wouldn’t choose to have an amateur redecorate your house and the same should apply when choosing who will install your construction site’s CCTV or access control systems.
Possessing the correct qualifications means that the company or individual is following industry-wide quality and health and safety standards, which means your business is less likely to suffer the consequences which can occur from poor installations.
What accreditations should I be looking for?
It is worth pointing out that there is no legal obligation for security service providers to become NSI or SSAIB approved, so really anybody could attempt to sell you CCTV services. It is up to you as a purchaser to be inquisitive and ask the right questions regarding qualifications and experience.
That being said, there are several industry-accepted accreditations which security providers can possess and which you should be looking out for. The industry has several top governing bodies, including the Security Industry Authority (SIA), which is responsible for handing out licenses for security professionals, whilst also overseeing the assessment bodies such as SSAIB (Security Systems & Alarms Inspection Board) and The NSI (National Security Inspectorate).
While accreditations are an extremely important factor, there are other things you can look out for when choosing your security service provider, including online reviews, social media, case studies and word of mouth. All of these will help you decide whether they are a reputable, quality service provider.
Why is it so important?
While anyone could attempt to install a security system, it does not mean that they will do a good job of it. The negative impacts caused by improper installations could result in various risks for your site and your workers.
Using a service provider which has been accredited by a SIA assessing body ensures that they are using only professionally evaluated staff, will have the right insurance cover to carry out their work, are following best practice standards and are undergoing regular inspections to ensure that they are still meeting these standards.
